Navigating Aid Delivery: US Military Opens Temporary Port in Gaza through Sea Corridor Amidst Criticism

The US military has successfully built a temporary port to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, with shipments already underway through a sea corridor. The first shipments have arrived in Gaza despite criticism from NGOs and UN Secretary General António Guterres, who advocate for prioritizing land access.

The objective of the sea corridor is to complement aid drops from the air and fill the gap left by the closure of land routes through the Erez and Rafah border posts. This maritime route was set up on a beach in Gaza after two months of work assembling its parts in the Israeli port of Ashdod.

Despite obstacles and criticisms, the US development aid agency and the Pentagon have clarified that this sea route is not intended to replace land routes. However, concerns remain among international organizations about the effectiveness of the sea corridor in delivering enough aid to Gaza to prevent a famine.
