NATO Summit Highlights Alliance’s Strength Amid Rising Tensions with Russia and Ukraine

Blinken confirms US approval for Ukrainian strikes on Russian targets using American weapons

US President Joe Biden has approved Ukraine’s use of American weapons to strike targets in Russian territory, as announced by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. This decision was made in response to Russia’s intense shelling of Kharkiv from Russian territory, as requested by Kiev. During an informal meeting of foreign ministers of NATO member states in Prague, Blinken also emphasized that clear steps will be taken to bring Ukraine closer to NATO at the upcoming NATO summit.

The 75th anniversary of the alliance will be celebrated at the NATO summit in Washington, highlighting the importance of strengthening the alliance for the next 75 years. The NATO summit is scheduled to take place in Washington in July of next year and will provide a significant opportunity for leaders to discuss and address current global challenges and the future direction of the alliance.

Blinken also mentioned that the strength and resources of the alliance will be put on display during this summit, underscoring its ability to face any challenges that may arise. The announcement comes amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with Moscow continuing its military buildup near its borders with neighboring countries.
