France’s parliamentary elections have resulted in a win for the National Unity party led by Marie Le Pen. According to exit polls, the party obtained approximately 34 percent of the votes, surpassing its left- and center-right rivals. The second round of voting is expected to be closely contested as political parties vie for support from voters across the political spectrum. This development comes amid growing support for right-wing parties in France, with President Emmanuel Macron announcing the dissolution of parliament and initiating extraordinary elections in anticipation of the summary of the results of the European Parliament elections on June 9.
