NASA Appoints Experienced Policy Analyst to Deputy Chief of Science Mission Directorate’s Policy Branch

Sara Schwartzman appointed as Deputy Chief of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate Policy Branch

Sara Schwartzman, who previously worked as a program support specialist at NASA, has been named the deputy chief of the Policy Branch in the agency’s Science Mission Directorate. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing space policy and program analysis, as well as strategic planning efforts to support NASA’s Earth and space science initiatives.

Before her promotion, Schwartzman served as a policy analyst within the Policy Branch at NASA headquarters. She first joined NASA in 2022 as a program support specialist, where she oversaw operational, administrative, and financial portfolios in the Science Mission Directorate.

Before her time at NASA, Schwartzman worked as a U.S. Senate bill clerk for seven years. In that role, she provided advice to Senate leadership on various legislative policy, procedural issues, and operational practices. Now, as the deputy chief of the Policy Branch at NASA, Schwartzman will bring her extensive experience to help shape and implement key policies and programs within the agency’s Science Mission Directorate.
