Narrows Elementary/Middle School Students Compete at National STEM Competition with Help from Technology Student Association

Narrows Technology Student Association Team to Participate in National Competition in Orlando

A group of students from Narrows Elementary/Middle School are set to compete in a STEM-focused national competition in Orlando, Florida. The Technology Student Association (TSA), an organization that provides real-world skills for future careers, is behind the competition. At the middle school level, students can compete in 37 different competitions.

Jennifer Shrewsbury, a 6th-grade teacher at Narrows Elementary/Middle School and regional TSA advisor, stresses the importance of TSA in developing foundational professional skills for children. The students at Narrows Elementary/Middle School have built a strong community through their shared passion for STEM.

Every year, TSA holds regional, state, and national competitions, with 17 students from Narrows Elementary/Middle School qualifying for the state competition. Now, these students are preparing to compete at the national level in Orlando in June. They are excited to represent their school and hope to achieve success at the national competition.

The students have dedicated countless hours to their preparation, and their hard work has paid off with their qualification for nationals. Looking ahead, they hope to expand TSA involvement to more schools in the region, such as Blacksburg and Christiansburg. They believe that involving more schools in TSA could benefit students across the region by providing opportunities for growth and development.
