The inaugural health expo was hosted by the NAACP of Hillsborough County

The NAACP of Hillsborough County recently hosted its first health expo and community Olympics, which brought together participants to enjoy games and activities while also receiving an important message about health disparities in communities of color. The organization emphasized the importance of unity, information, and preventive measures to combat health issues that disproportionately affect people of color.

With the help of over 30 community partners, the NAACP is working to promote good health and wealth in communities of color. The event offered attendees opportunities to give blood, attend cooking demonstrations, and participate in health screenings for blood pressure and dental check-ups.

According to Patrice Waite, health and wellness are civil rights issues, and events like the health expo aim to show the community that making healthy choices can be enjoyable. She emphasized the importance of representation and support for people of color to achieve a healthy and wealthy life.

The event saw individuals of all ages and backgrounds come together, providing a sense of visibility and empowerment within the community. Events like these have the power to create positive impacts on wellness in communities of color by bringing people together around common goals.
