MU Health Care Outperforms Projections: Reduced Loss of $12.7 Million to $7.6 Million in FY 2024

Capitol Region Medical Center receives glowing review at Health Affairs Committee meeting | Mid-Missouri News

The Capitol Region Medical Center, which was acquired by MU Health Care in January, was originally projected to experience a loss of $12.7 million in fiscal year 2024. However, the medical center has managed to reduce this loss to $7.6 million, which is $5.1 million less than the original projection. The UM System Board of Curators Health Affairs Committee received reports on MU Health Care and the School of Medicine during a meeting held on Thursday.

During the meeting, Ric Ransom, CEO of MU Health Care, described fiscal year 2024 as a significant year for MU Healthcare, highlighting a period of historic growth and investment in both the integration of Capitol Region Medical Center and the opening of the Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center. The new MU Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center, which opened earlier this month, cost $230 million, representing the largest investment in an MU Healthcare facility.

Eric Maze, who is the public relations manager for MU Health Care and the MU School of Medicine, attributed this reduction in loss to increased physician and nurse staff at Capitol Region Medical Center as well as new programs implemented since its integration with MU Health Care. Several appointments were also announced during the meeting including Kevin Kane as senior associate dean for medical education at the MU School of Medicine and Tonya Johnson as incoming chief operating officer for MU Health Care. Greg Damron was appointed as chief financial officer for MU Health Care starting from July 1st.
