Mpox cases on the rise in New York City: Health Department warns of new, severe strain of illness

Health Department reports significant rise in Mpox cases

Since last October, the New York City Health Department has reported a significant increase in cases of the Mpox virus. They are also warning about a more severe strain of the illness that has emerged in the Congo and could potentially spread to New York City.

The number of cases among local patients affected by Mpox is 94 percent, with gay and bisexual men being the majority. However, this is still below the peak seen almost two years ago.
