MP Stephen Bartulica’s Financial Struggles: Unreported Debt and Lack of Transparency

Bartulica purchases new car with unverifiable income sources

Stephen (Stjepo) Nikola Bartulica, the representative of the Homeland Movement, is facing financial troubles if he doesn’t earn his monthly salary of 7854 euros in the European Parliament. The Croatian politician has reportedly accumulated a debt of 570,000 euros due to loan installments and repayments that exceed his income with his wife. Despite claims on social media that he is under attack by leftists, Bartulica has failed to disclose any additional sources of income beyond what is stated in his property card.

The situation began with Bartulica’s purchase of a house on the island of Prvi near Šibenik for 300,000 euros, with a loan of 270,000 euros taken out by Bartulica. He also took out a loan of 270,000 euros on an apartment in Zagreb. To cover the remaining cost of the house, Bartulica borrowed an additional 30,000 euros from Vjekoslav Guci, which was not reported in the property card or any other potential sources of income.

Bartulica’s failure to disclose additional sources of income has raised questions about his financial situation and public image. The Croatian Socialist Democratic Party initiated a procedure questioning the Minister of Health over Bartulica’s financial dealings and undisclosed sources of income. In response to these accusations and claims of financial responsibility, Bartulica has only accused others without providing any evidence or transparency regarding his finances.

Despite owning a car worth HRK 115,000 and having access to loans from acquaintances, Bartulica has always claimed to have no savings or additional income beyond what is stated in his property card. This raises concerns about his ability to sustain himself financially and maintain his political career if he continues down this path.

The Commission for decision-making on conflict-of-interest is looking into the matter further and may take action against Bartulica if it finds evidence of wrongdoing or unethical behavior.

In conclusion, Stephen (Stjepo) Nikola Bartulica faces significant financial difficulties if he does not receive his monthly salary in the European Parliament. His reported debt amounts to over half a million euros with loan installments and repayments exceeding his income with his wife. Despite claiming no additional sources of income beyond what is stated in his property card and attacking those who questioned him financially, he still faces significant scrutiny from both political opponents and regulatory bodies like the Commission for decision-making on conflict-of-interest as they look into allegations surrounding him.
