Mountain State Business College: A Tribute to Its Legacy and Impact

News, Sports, and Job Opportunities at Mountain State Business College: A Tribute to the Past

As a journalist who recently read an article about Mountain State Business College, I wanted to share my positive thoughts about the school. While the article mentioned that the school is closing, it failed to fully acknowledge the significant contribution of Mountain State to our area in the past.

Many young men returning from military service used their G.I. Bill benefits to attend Mountain State to study accounting and other business courses. Similarly, young women from small towns and rural areas came to Parkersburg to learn typing and shorthand at the school. Some of them even stayed with local families in exchange for helping with childcare and household tasks.

Over time, these graduates went on to hold leadership positions at banks, businesses, factories, and various agencies, making valuable contributions to the community and beyond. Personally, I have fond memories of riding my bicycle around the beautiful red brick building of Mountain State College, listening to the sounds of typewriters in the typing class.

It is important to recognize the impact and legacy of Mountain State College and its founder in shaping the lives and careers of many individuals in the region. Let’s remember the school’s glory days and the significant influence it had on the community.
