Lotus Bakeries to partner with rival for launch of new products and caramelized biscuits in India.

Mondelez International, the world’s largest cookie manufacturer, and Lotus Bakeries, a renowned East Flemish cookie maker, have announced a collaboration to produce new products together. The partnership involves Mondelez baking Lotus caramelized biscuits in India and producing Milka chocolate products containing Lotus caramelized biscuits.

As part of the agreement, Mondelez will handle the production, marketing, distribution, and sales of the Biscoff biscuit in India on behalf of Lotus. Lotus CEO Jan Boone expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, citing the opportunity to leverage Mondelez’s local market expertise and presence in India.

The two companies will also collaborate on developing new chocolate products incorporating Lotus caramelized biscuits. The initial focus will be on introducing these products in Europe with Milka biscuits and in the UK with Cadbury. With future plans for global expansion, the first products from this partnership are expected to launch in early 2025.

Mondelez has a revenue of approximately $36 billion and boasts brands like LU, Oreo, and Toblerone in its portfolio. In contrast, Lotus Bakeries recorded a turnover of 1.06 billion euros in 2023. The cookie maker from Lembeke is publicly listed and part of the Bel20, the index of top shares on the Brussels stock exchange.
