Molloy University Awarded $3.5 Million Grant to Enhance STEM Opportunities for Minority Students

Molloy University in Rockville Centre, NY has been awarded a five-year, $3.5 million grant from the National Science Foundation’s Louis Stokes Alliances for Minority Participation (LSAMP) program. The grant aims to support the success of students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) so they can compete in the National STEM initiative.

The grant represents a unique partnership among seven Catholic universities and has been described as creative and noteworthy by Molloy University President James Lentini. The overarching goal of the grant is to support underrepresented minority students in STEM fields, which is seen as valuable for the communities and populations served by the universities involved.

To enhance opportunities for minority students pursuing STEM careers, there will be a director housed at Molloy University who will work with a steering committee made up of members from each of the participating institutions. This collaborative effort is designed to contribute to the advancement of the region as a whole.
