Vaccination clinics are being held by veterinarians in Whitesburg, Kentucky to protect the health of animals in the region. The Kentucky River District Health Department has kicked off a rabies clinic in Letcher County to provide vaccines to those who need them. Dr. David Moore explained that for over 20 years, they have been going into communities to offer vaccines to people who may not be able to afford regular vet visits or are unable to get to a vet.
The clinic is not only beneficial for individual pets, but also helps protect the community as a whole. Vaccinating pets not only keeps them healthy, but also prevents the spread of disease to other animals in the area. Dr. Moore emphasized the importance of vaccination in keeping pets safe, especially in mountainous regions where animals like possums, raccoons, and bats are common carriers of rabies.
The clinic will be traveling to Knott, Leslie, and Perry counties in July to continue providing vaccinations to animals in need. By offering this service, the veterinarians hope to ensure the health and safety of pets and the community as a whole.
