MNE Exposes Four Energy Suppliers for Engaging in Contentious Commercial Practices: Report Calls for Ethical and Transparent Business Practices in the Sector

Four energy suppliers caught in invoice backlog

The National Energy Mediator (MNE) has released its latest report, which highlights the worst performers in the energy sector. According to Olivier Challan Belval, who leads MNE’s teams, four suppliers were identified for engaging in contentious commercial practices. These suppliers include ENI, Ohm Énergie, Wekiwi, and Engie.

The report details two scenarios that lead to the same undesirable outcome. In the first scenario, suppliers lure in new customers through telephone sales tactics by promising very attractive future monthly payments that do not align with reality. When the first bill arrives at the end of the payment or contract period, customers are in for a shock. This practice has been identified as contentious by MNE.

The second scenario involves suppliers deliberately underestimating their client’s monthly payments. This leads to customers being overcharged and unable to pay their bills on time. The public authority accuses these suppliers of acting unethically and unfairly towards their customers.

In addition to detailing these specific cases of contentious commercial practices, the report also sheds light on ongoing challenges in the energy sector. With increasing competition and changing consumer expectations, it is crucial for suppliers to conduct their business ethically and transparently. By holding suppliers accountable for their actions, MNE aims to protect consumers and ensure a fair and competitive energy market.

This year’s report marks MNE’s continued efforts to regulate the energy sector and ensure that consumers are treated fairly by their providers. With growing concerns about climate change and rising energy prices, it is more important than ever for companies operating in this industry to act with integrity and responsibility towards their customers.
