Mitsubishi Robot Cracks Guinness World Record for Fastest Rubik’s Cube Solver with Signal-Responsive Motors and AI Algorithm

In Japan, a specially designed Mitsubishi robot has recently set a new Guinness World Record for solving a Rubik’s Cube in record time. The TOKUI Fast Accurate Synchronized Motion Testing Robot spun the colorful puzzle in just 0.305 seconds, beating a previous record held by a Massachusetts Institute of Technology bot.

This time was significantly quicker than the human record-holder’s time of 3.13 seconds set in 2023. The project’s leading engineer, Tokui, expressed that shaving off the time as much as possible was both difficult and fun. He mentioned that he was confident in their ability to beat the previous record-holders based on the quality of the motor used in the Mitsubishi robot.

Initially, the robot was too fast for its own good and caused a jam in the puzzle. The team had to troubleshoot and make adjustments to ensure a successful attempt. With a second try after some tweaking, the record was officially clinched in late May.

The success was attributed to the company’s signal-responsive motors and an AI color-recognizing algorithm proprietary to Mitsubishi. Tokui expressed his pride in the technology behind the record-breaking achievement and hopes that it will demonstrate the capabilities of their products to people worldwide.
