Miron Construction Awarded Contract for UW-Eau Claire’s $163.3 Million Science and Health Sciences Building Replacement

Miron Construction, based in Neenah, has been awarded the contract for the Science and Health Sciences Building at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. The project is set to begin in July and is expected to be completed by spring 2027. Miron won the bid with a proposal of $163.3 million, beating out Eau Clara-based Market & Johnson’s bid of $164.9 million.

The new building will replace Phillips Hall and will be a five-story, 330,000-square-foot science and technology learning center. Miron Construction expressed excitement about the project on social media, stating that they are honored to be replacing Phillips Hall with a modern Science and Health Sciences Building.

The new building will also facilitate collaboration between UW – Eau Claire and the Mayo Clinic Health System, focusing on education, research, and patient care to enhance healthcare services in northwestern Wisconsin. This project is Miron’s largest hard bid project to date, with construction costs estimated at $245 million by the state in March.

Miron Construction will be working with Potter Lawson from Madison, HOK from Chicago, and the Department of Administration’s Division of Facilities Development on this project. The bidding process was extended to April to allow contractors and owners more time to review the plans for the project.

In 2022, UW – Eau Claire demolished Katharine Thomas and Putnam Halls to make way for the construction of the new Science and Health Sciences Building. This new building will house various university programs such as biology
