Minneapolis: Carjackings on the Rise Despite a 20% Decrease in 2021

In the past 28 days, 10 carjackings were reported in the City of Minneapolis, with a total of 76 carjackings so far this year. This marks a more than 20% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. Police have arrested three suspects in connection to a violent carjacking that occurred in Minneapolis. The victim reported being attacked by the suspects while closing up her business and then her vehicle was stolen. A brief police chase ensued, leading to the arrests near Clinton Avenue and East 45th Street.

Police identified the suspects as an 18-year-old, a 16-year-old, and a 14-year-old with a history of violent criminal activity. They are believed to be connected to at least 20 crimes in the past four years, including stolen property, car theft, and aggravated robbery. Police Chief Brian O’Hara emphasized the commitment to holding offenders accountable regardless of their age or criminal history.
