Middle Georgia Students Shine at 7th Annual Science and Engineering Fair; Inspiring Future Scientists and Engineers

7th Annual K-5 Science and Engineering Fair Hosted by GCSU

The 7th Annual Science and Engineering Fair at Georgia College & State University was a huge success, attracting over 400 students from across the state. This marked the largest group of elementary school students to participate in the event since its inception six years ago. With 100 different school districts represented, the judges had their work cut out for them as they tried to choose winners from among the numerous outstanding projects on display.

One of the judges, John Trombley, a Senior Chemistry Lecturer at GCSU, commented on the difficulty of selecting winners when faced with so many exceptional projects. He noted that when choosing between two or three outstanding projects, it can be challenging to determine which one stands out just a little bit more.

Catrena Lisse, the Fair Director and director of GCSU’s Science Education Center, emphasized the importance of nurturing children’s curiosity and fostering their self-confidence through events like the Science and Engineering Fair. She highlighted the significance of supporting and encouraging young minds as they represent the future scientists, doctors, and GBI agents who will play crucial roles in finding cures for diseases and advancing various fields.

The fair showcased approximately 70 projects submitted by students from middle Georgia, demonstrating their creativity, innovation, and scientific curiosity. The fair provided these students with an opportunity to display their talents and interests in science and engineering, inspiring them to pursue careers in these fields and make meaningful contributions to society in the future.
