Microsoft Postpones Launch of AI-Powered Recall Feature due to Security Concerns

Launch of Microsoft’s Recall function, a photographic memory system powered by artificial intelligence, postponed.

In recent news, Microsoft has announced a delay in the launch of their AI-powered Recall feature. Originally scheduled to be released on June 18, Recall is an innovative functionality integrated into the new Copilot+ PCs that uses AI to create a photographic memory system, allowing users to search for previously accessed content across various applications, documents, and websites.

However, concerns were raised by security experts regarding potential vulnerabilities in Recall that could compromise users’ private information. Microsoft responded by stating that Recall would be made a clearer option and disabled by default, requiring users to log in with Windows Hello to use it.

Due to these security concerns, Microsoft has delayed the release of Recall. Instead of being widely available on June 18 as originally planned, Recall will now be included in the Windows Insider Program for testing in the upcoming weeks. The company aims to gather feedback from the community through this program to ensure that the functionality meets high quality and security standards.

Microsoft emphasized that security is their top priority and assured users that Recall will feature ‘Just in Time’ encryption, ensuring that the photographic memory is decrypted only with Windows Hello. The company is adjusting the release model of Recall to leverage the insights of the Windows Insider community and ensure a safe and high-quality experience for users.
