Microchip Technology and TSMC Join Forces to Boost Global Presence through Specialized Manufacturing Processes in Japan

Microchip Technology, a U.S.-based company, has announced a partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) to utilize specialized 40-nanometer manufacturing processes at TSMC’s subsidiary in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan. The collaboration is aimed at enhancing the resilience of Microchip Tech’s supply chain and better serving a wide range of global customers in various sectors.

Rosa Castanares, senior vice president of business management at TSMC North America, said that this initiative demonstrates TSMC’s dedication to supporting the long-term growth and innovation of its customers. TSMC recently inaugurated its first Japanese plant in Kumamoto Prefecture and is planning to construct a second fab in the same town, Kikuyo. Once both fabs are operational, they will produce 100,000 12-inch wafers per month at full capacity, utilizing cutting-edge technologies ranging from 40 nm to 6nm.

This strategic partnership underscores the commitment of both Microchip Technology and TSMC to advancing technological capabilities and meeting the evolving demands of the global market.

Microchip Technology is known for its microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog, and Flash-IP integrated circuits. The company believes that this partnership will enable it to better serve a wide range of global customers in sectors such as automotive, industrial, and networking applications.

The collaboration between Microchip Technology and TSMC highlights the importance of building strong partnerships in today’s fast-paced technology industry. Both companies recognize that working together can lead to greater innovation and success in meeting customer needs.

In summary, this strategic partnership between Microchip Technology and TSMC is an example of how companies can collaborate to enhance their capabilities and better serve their customers in an ever-changing global marketplace.
