Michigan Leads the Way in Clean Energy and Climate Action with Historic Federal Investments

Senate Democrats in Michigan celebrate World Environment Day, showcasing significant strides in climate action for the state.

Michigan is now the second-highest state in the country when it comes to drawing down federal funding for clean energy and climate action, thanks to its efforts in leveraging federal opportunities. The state’s efforts have been further supported by unprecedented federal climate investments from the Biden administration.

Senate Democrats are pleased to announce a historic $156 million investment in solar energy by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for Michigan. This funding will help accelerate the deployment of community and rooftop solar for thousands of low-income households through the Michigan Solar for All (MISFA) program. The goal is to reduce utility costs, create jobs, and strengthen the state’s clean energy sector while working towards the MI Healthy Climate Plan goals.

Michigan’s Clean Energy Future Plan is an important step towards building on this national leadership in climate progress, and Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks has been engaged with environmental stakeholders and advocates from across the state to ensure that everyone has a voice in this conversation. By working collaboratively with environmental advocates, Senate Democrats aim to further advance Michigan’s efforts in combating climate change and protecting the environment.
