Michigan Football Secures Top-Priority Target with Commitment of Jaylen Williams
Recruiting has been a major focus for Michigan Football, but they have been lacking in results. However, the hope was that the period when Michigan began hosting official visitors would help fill out the class. June 21 marks the beginning of the crucial ‘victors weekend,’ but the second week of visits already produced results with the commitment of four-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams from Palatine, Illinois.
Williams ultimately chose Michigan over Nebraska, Purdue, and Tennessee, despite having offers from other major programs such as Auburn, Ohio State, and USC. According to 247Sports’ Allen Trieu, Williams has a tall, long frame with athleticism due to his basketball background. He displays quickness off the ball and frequently disrupts plays in the backfield. However, he will need to improve his technique against stronger competition in college. Standing at 290-300+ pounds, Williams is likely to be a hand-down lineman in college, fitting well as an end in an odd-front scheme.
247Sports rates Williams as a four-star prospect at No. 153 overall, the 20th-best defensive lineman, and the 5th-best player in Illinois. Despite some rawness in his game, Williams possesses high-major physical gifts and plays with intensity, indicating a solid foundation for growth. With this commitment by Williams on June 6th during second week of visits it seems like that hope was not far off for maize and blue recruiting team .
