Michigan Football Hosts Elite Recruit Kainoa Winston as Primary Competition for 2025 Class

Michigan football is a top contender for highly sought-after safety from DMV region.

During the first weekend of summer official visits, Michigan football is hosting a group of elite recruits. Among them is highly sought-after four-star recruit Kainoa Winston from Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga. Winston, who has narrowed down his list of finalists to four schools, including Michigan, Penn State, Oregon, and North Carolina, is considered to be the primary competition for the recruit.

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Winston is highly regarded as a new-age defensive back prospect with impressive track times and a strong ability to combat modern passing attacks. He is agile and quick to locate the football, with shown skill in run support as a spirited tackler.

Winston’s visit to Michigan is his first official visit, but he will also be visiting the other three schools on his list in the coming weeks. The scouting report on Winston suggests that he has the potential to be a defensive playmaker for a Power Five program, capable of contributing in multiple roles on defense and special teams.
