The New York Mets have decided to bring back reliever Yohan Ramirez, claiming him off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. To add Ramirez to the 40-man roster, starting pitcher Max Kranick has been designated for assignment.
Kranick had been in contention for the No. 5 spot in the starting rotation before suffering an injury during spring training. After recovering, he had been pitching for Triple-A Syracuse, where he posted a 4.30 ERA and 1.77 WHIP in 14.2 innings across six starts. Now, with Ramirez’s return, Kranick has been designated for assignment to make room on the roster.
Ramirez was previously traded by the Mets to the Orioles on April 11 for cash considerations, just a few days after New York had designated him for assignment. In his three games with the Mets earlier this season, Ramirez struggled, allowing seven runs in 5.1 innings. He also received a suspension for throwing at Rhys Hoskins during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. With his return to the team, Ramirez hopes to turn things around and contribute to the success of the Mets this season.
