Choo, A Billionaire, Unveils The World’s Largest Mercure Hotel In Singapore

In the heart of Singapore’s financial district, the Mercure ICON stands tall as the largest Mercure hotel in the world. Founded by billionaire Choo Chong Ngen and part of Worldwide Hotels, this hotel is a significant addition to the group’s portfolio, with 989 rooms that provide guests with an authentic Singaporean experience.

The Mercure ICON is managed by Mercure, which is under French hospitality group Accor. Alongside two other hotels opened by Worldwide Hotels in Singapore in the past six months, this investment totals S$1.6 billion, solidifying the company’s presence in Singapore’s competitive hotel market. With these recent developments, Worldwide Hotels now operates more than 8,600 rooms in Singapore, making it one of the largest hotel groups in the country.

Carolyn Choo, CEO and managing director of Worldwide Hotels, highlighted the rich cultural surroundings of the Mercure ICON as its flagship hotel. The hotel boasts numerous cafes, restaurants, and bars in close proximity to provide guests with an authentic Singaporean experience.

Since expanding overseas in 2017, Worldwide Hotels has acquired 11 additional hotels in various countries including Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan and Australia. These properties are managed by well-known brands like Holiday Inn Travelodge and Ibis. These developments demonstrate the company’s global reach and ambition.

Choo Chong Ngen’s success story began with Hotel 81 in Singapore’s red-light district and has grown into a thriving business empire worth billions of dollars today.
