Memorial Murals on Suicide Prevention: How a Paducah Foundation is Empowering Mental Health Awareness

Anti-Bullying Foundation to Paint Murals Commemorating Mental Health

The Guess Anti-Bullying Foundation in Paducah has been painting murals for years with messages about kindness, but their newest additions will focus on suicide prevention. Susan Guess, who co-founded the foundation with her daughter, was recently inspired to address mental health after the anniversary of her brother’s suicide.

To involve those who have been affected by suicide, some individuals who have lost loved ones will be invited to paint a portion of the wall as a way to heal and remember those they have lost. The goal of the new murals is to let people know that help is available 24/7 by calling or texting 9-8-8 to reach a local team at Four Rivers Behavioral Health.

The two new murals will be painted on the Fifth Street side of Four Rivers Behavioral Health, a sponsor and provider of mental health services in the area. Sponsors of the mural include Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital, Four Rivers Behavioral Health, and the Paducah Flower Company.
