Meet Tiangong: The World’s First Full-Sized Humanoid Robot Unveiled in Beijing

The first multi-purpose humanoid robot developed by China

In Beijing, the world’s first full-sized humanoid robot, Tiangong, was unveiled on April 27. Developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center Company, the robot is powered entirely by electric drive and stands at 1.63 m tall and weighs 43 kg.

Tiangong offers open source code with strong development capabilities, making it versatile for various applications in household services, manufacturing, and industrial settings. Equipped with vision perception sensors and high-precision inertial measurement devices, Tiangong can process 550 trillion calculations per second. Additionally, the robot features 6-axis force sensors that provide accurate force feedback. During its launch ceremony, Tiangong demonstrated its ability to adapt to complex environments and maintain a stable speed of 6 km/h while navigating slopes and stairs with ease.

The Beijing Economic-Technological Development Zone is a hub for the robot industry in Beijing and houses over 110 robot companies. This industrial chain system integrates core components, machinery, and applications. The launch of Tiangong coincided with significant AI technology advancements at the Zhongguancun Forum 2024 held in China’s capital city of Beijing, showcasing China’s expertise in integrating AI into everyday life to provide valuable tools for humans.

Seán Ó hÉigeartaigh, director at Cambridge’s Center for Risk Research expressed optimism about China’s AI industry praising its ability to develop AI solutions that enhance daily life. With Tiangong leading the way in humanoid robotics it represents a significant step forward in advancing AI technology for practical applications.
