Measles Vaccination Drive in Suburban Cook County: Staying Safe and Healthy Amidst the Increasing Outbreaks

Public Health Department of Cook County

The highly contagious disease of measles is easily spread through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It can also be transmitted through contact with mucus or saliva from someone with the virus. Measles can lead to serious complications, such as pneumonia and encephalitis, especially in children under 5 and adults over 20.

In response to this, the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) is urging all residents in suburban Cook County to stay up-to-date with their vaccinations, including the measles vaccine. Illinois residents can access their immunization records through the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Vax Verify portal.

For those who are unvaccinated and do not have a healthcare provider, Cook County Health is offering vaccination appointments at community health centers in Chicago and suburban Cook County. Appointments can be scheduled by calling 833-308-1988. It is important for everyone to protect themselves and others by getting vaccinated against measles and other preventable diseases.
