Mark Zuckerberg’s Management Style: Eyes on the Prize, Feedback and Trust

What It’s Like Working for Zuckerberg: Insights from an Instagram Boss

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri recently discussed his working relationship with Mark Zuckerberg on the podcast “The Colin and Samir Show.” Mosseri described Zuckerberg as being highly results-focused and setting a high bar for expectations. He noted that Zuckerberg is always looking for feedback to “pressure test” ideas.

Mosseri emphasized the importance of finding a balance when working with a manager, especially someone like Zuckerberg. After working together for a long time, they can anticipate each other’s feedback and find a way to incorporate differing opinions into their collaboration. Despite having had their fair share of arguments over the years, Mosseri acknowledged that they have built trust over time.

Meta CTO Andrew “Boz” Bosworth also shared insights into Zuckerberg’s management style, likening it to the “Eye of Sauron” from “The Lord of the Rings.” Bosworth explained that Zuckerberg is extremely focused on important projects and pays attention to even the smallest details. He noted that Zuckerberg often challenges feedback but ultimately ends up making the recommended changes.

Overall, Mosseri and Bosworth highlighted the dynamic working relationship they have with Zuckerberg, characterized by high expectations, rigorous feedback, and mutual trust. While there may be disagreements and challenges along the way, they both recognize the value of working with someone who pushes them to do their best work.
