Marcedes Lewis’s record-breaking NFL career with the Chicago Bears: Blocking and breaking tight end milestones at 40

Bears re-sign veteran tight end Marcedes Lewis for 19th NFL season

Tight end Marcedes Lewis has signed on for his 19th season in the NFL with the Chicago Bears at the age of 40. Despite catching only four passes for 29 yards and one touchdown last season, Lewis is still considered an excellent run blocker. This skill makes him a valuable addition to the Bears’ tight end lineup alongside Cole Kmet and Gerald Everett, who are known for their receiving abilities.

With a new quarterback in Caleb Williams and offensive coordinator Shane Waldron calling plays, the Bears will have a different look this season. The team’s long and storied NFL career could be an intriguing storyline for the HBO docuseries “Hard Knocks,” as the Bears will be featured in training camp this summer.

Since being drafted in the first round in 2006, Lewis has played for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Green Bay Packers before joining the Bears. He is currently in third place at 268 games played (behind Tony Gonzalez at 270) and is well-positioned to set a record for the most career games played by a tight end this season, with just four more games needed to surpass Jason Witten’s record of 271 games played.
