Manchester City’s Legal Battle with Premier League: A Closer Look

Experts believe that a settlement between the City and the Premier League is unlikely.

The latest episode of BBC Radio Manchester’s We’re Not Really Here podcast explores the ongoing legal battles between Manchester City and the Premier League. In February 2023, City faced 115 breaches of Premier League regulations, a charge that the club denies.

The hearing regarding the legality of the Premier League’s associated party transaction (APT) rules is also underway. Football finance expert Kieran Maguire and lawyer Stefan Borson, who previously served as a financial adviser to City, discussed the possibility of a settlement before the charges are heard.

Maguire suggested that a settlement could save both parties money and allow them to claim victory. However, he acknowledged that public opinion and media scrutiny may make a settlement difficult for both the Premier League and City. Borson echoed this sentiment, stating that finding common ground at this stage, so close to the hearing, would be highly unlikely.
