Malaysia Airlines Boeing 738 on Fire: Another in a Series of Boeing Plane Mishaps in 2020

A Malaysia Airlines Boeing Aircraft Spotted with Engine on Fire

A video has surfaced showing a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 738 aircraft on fire and turning back after takeoff at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The flight, which was bound for Kuala Lumpur, had to make an emergency landing back in Hyderabad after the fire broke out just 15 minutes after departure.

Passengers and crew were able to safely disembark from the plane, with no reported injuries. Those affected by the incident will be reallocated to other flights for their continued journey, according to Malaysia Airlines.

This incident marks yet another mishap involving Boeing planes this year. In January, a door plug came off a Boeing 737 Max 9 jet during an Alaska Airlines flight, and in March, a United Airlines flight lost a tire shortly after takeoff. Additionally, Boeing whistleblowers have raised concerns about the company’s quality control practices, with allegations ranging from misplaced faulty parts to hiding improperly stored plane parts from FAA inspectors.

Boeing CEO David Calhoun has defended the company’s safety record despite these incidents. Malaysia Airlines and Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the incident.
