Major League Baseball Mourns the Loss of Iconic Player Dave McCarthy

Dave McCarty, Former MLB Player and 2004 World Series Winner with Red Sox, Passes Away at Age 54

The Boston Red Sox announced the death of former MLB first baseman and outfielder Dave McCarthy at the age of 54. McCarthy had an illustrious 11-year career in Major League Baseball, playing for a total of seven different teams.

Throughout his time in the majors, McCarthy amassed a total of 362 hits, 36 home runs, and 175 RBI, with a career batting average of .242. He was initially drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the first round of the 1991 MLB draft and spent his first two-and-a-half seasons with the team before being traded to the Cincinnati Reds in June 1995. Six weeks later, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants.

In 1998, McCarthy was once again traded, this time to the Seattle Mariners, before ultimately joining the Kansas City Royals in 2000. He later played for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2002 and the Oakland Athletics in 2003 before signing with the Red Sox later that season. His final three seasons were spent in Boston where he was part of the 2004 World Series-winning team that was recently honored at Fenway Park.

Dave McCarthy is survived by his wife Monica and their children Reid and Maxine. His contributions to baseball and his time with various teams are fondly remembered by many fans across Major League Baseball
