Mahershala Ali Joins Cast of Upcoming ‘Jurassic World’ Sequel

In recent news, actor Mahershala Ali has been reportedly in talks to join the new “Jurassic World” sequel currently in development at Universal. If he agrees to join the cast, Ali will be working alongside Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Rupert Friend. The film is set to be directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, the original screenwriter of “Jurassic Park.”

The new installment of this franchise is expected to kick off a new trilogy following the three “Jurassic Park” and three “Jurassic World” films. “Jurassic World Dominion” concluded the sequel trilogy in 2022 with worldwide earnings of $1 billion. Since the original “Jurassic Park” film by Steven Spielberg in 1994, the franchise has become one of Universal’s most valuable properties, generating substantial box office revenue and inspiring theme park attractions and merchandise.

Spielberg will serve as executive producer for the new film through Amblin Entertainment, with Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley producing through Kennedy-Marshall. Universal’s Sara Scott and Jacqueline Garell will oversee the project. Ali is a two-time Oscar winner for “Moonlight” and “Green Book,” has a diverse resume that includes roles in films like Netflix’s “Leave the World Behind” and Sony’s “Spider-Verse” series. He is also known for his work on TV shows like “Ramy,” HBO’s “True Detective,” and Netflix’s “House of Cards.” Ali is represented by WME, Cognition, Relevant, and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern, LLP.
