Luis Lucero appointed as the new Secretary of Mining by Javier Milei’s Government

The Government of Javier Milei has announced the appointment of Luis Lucero as the new Secretary of Mining, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economy. Lucero is a lawyer specializing in the mining industry, natural resources law, project financing, corporate matters, and complex arbitrations and litigation.

Prior to his appointment, Lucero worked at prominent legal firms in the country and in the United States. He graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with a Postgraduate Degree in Business Law from the Universidad Argentina de la Empresa and completed various specialization courses and seminars at institutions such as Harvard Law School, Columbia Business School, and University College London (UCL).

As Secretary of Mining, Lucero will be responsible for proposing, executing, and monitoring Argentina’s mining policy. The Secretariat will work closely with provinces, municipalities, investors, and companies to coordinate international cooperation and maximize Argentina’s geological-mining potential. Last year, the country exported $4 billion worth of minerals with projections to reach $20-25 billion by 2030 particularly with the development of copper projects and lithium potential.

Lucero has been recognized as an outstanding professional in the mining industry and project financing. His appointment underscores the government’s focus on maximizing Argentina’s mining potential while promoting sustainable development in the sector.
