LSU Faces Infield Shortage After Loss of Key Players; No Clear Replacements Found Yet

LSU Baseball’s Former Top Recruit Enters Transfer Portal

The No. 2 ranked shortstop from Arizona in the 2023 recruiting class, Ryan Kucherak, has announced his decision to transfer after just one season with LSU. Despite playing in 16 games for the Tigers last season, he only had 12 at-bats and finished the season with a .250 batting average and two RBI.

LSU is currently facing a shortage of infielders as several players from last season have moved on. With players like Jared Jones, Tommy White, Ben Nippolt, Austen Roellig, and catchers gone from the team, LSU is left with Stephen Milam, Michael Braswell III, and possibly Josh Pearson. While Milam is expected to return for another season, the status of Braswell III and Pearson remains uncertain. Both players may enter the 2024 MLB draft but still have another year of eligibility.

The transfer of Kucherak has intensified LSU’s need to add infielders to their roster. With no clear replacements yet identified, it is crucial for the team to find suitable replacements to strengthen the infield before next season begins.
