L’Oréal Leads in Environmental Impact Analysis at SETAC Congress, Pursuing Sustainable Cosmetics Solutions

The Contribution of L’Oréal to the Progress of Environmental Science

Since 2017, L’Oréal has been conducting a comprehensive analysis of the environmental impact of all our products throughout their lifecycle. This approach follows the guidelines of the European Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), covering every stage of the product lifecycle, from sourcing raw materials to the end-of-life phase. By undertaking this thorough analysis, we provide our consumers with clear and transparent information about the environmental impacts of our products.

In early May 2024, L’Oréal’s Research & Innovation (R&I) team took part in the 34th annual SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) congress. Through presenting 11 posters, they showcased advancements in lifecycle impact assessment methods for cosmetics and explored the potential effects of cosmetic products on aquatic ecosystems.

The SETAC Congress brings together experts in environmental toxicology on a global scale, aiming to promote environmental science and science-informed decision-making through collaboration, communication, education, and leadership. This year’s conference theme focuses on addressing safety concerns, sustainability, and remediation options for chemical pollution during crises.

At L’Oréal, we are committed to collaborative research to achieve sustainable goals and enhance our understanding of the environmental impact of cosmetics. We strive to provide products that are not only eco-designed in harmony with nature but also uphold our standards of performance and efficiency. Our commitment to transparency is at the heart of everything we do as a company, providing consumers with clear information about our products’ environmental impacts so they can make informed decisions when purchasing them.
