Johnny Beecher, a native of Elmira, New York, recently completed his first season in the NHL with the Boston Bruins. Despite Boston’s loss to Florida in the playoffs, Beecher made history for Elmira sports by scoring his first postseason goal. Selected in the first round of the 2019 NHL draft by Boston, Beecher played a total of 52 games, scoring seven goals and three assists. He also had a 54.6% faceoff percentage and averaged 10.37 minutes of ice time per game.
Playing in Boston’s 100th year of professional hockey was a privilege for Beecher, who expressed gratitude for the support he received from Elmira and the Twin Tiers community. He fondly recalls the excitement of opening night at TD Garden against the Chicago Blackhawks, where he was introduced to a sold-out crowd in a memorable ceremony.
As the postseason arrived, Beecher experienced the thrill of playoff hockey for the first time, an experience he will always remember. Despite not being able to share it with fans due to COVID-19 restrictions, he is proud to have been able to be part of it all.
