Livestreaming in the Classroom: Empowering Students to Launch their Startups

Activating the Startup Spirit: Teaching Students through Livestreaming

A group of digital content businesses teamed up with universities to teach livestreaming to students and spark a startup spirit. On the evening of June 26, Phuong Oanh Daily and Huynh Bao, the “Closing Stars” duo who rose to fame from the KOC Vietnam 2023 contest, demonstrated livestream sales techniques to Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade students. The duo showcased different job positions in the live session operation team, resulting in nearly 1,000 orders being closed in just 90 minutes.

This soft skills training activity is one of many joint initiatives between Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade and Startup Uni 5.0. The organizers hope that this activity will inspire an entrepreneurial mindset among students, especially those interested in e-commerce. In recent years, other colleges and universities have also introduced livestreaming into their teaching programs, both extracurricular and curricular.

In mid-June, Gia Dinh University partnered with Vietnam E-Commerce Association (VECOM) to offer a free livestream course for students. FPT Polytechnic College integrated livestream sales into its curriculum through specialized activities and direct interactions with speakers before incorporating it into their training program. Master Thai Hoang Khai from Startup Uni 5.0 explained that using livestream as a form of demonstration for students is because it is a modern tool that allows them to practice and develop soft skills effectively.

Livestream sales have been popular in Vietnam for the past eight years, available on e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, Tiki, Sendo. Social media platforms like Facebook have also been used by users to sell products through live streams. Last year saw a surge in live streaming sessions with huge sales announcements being made. Dr. Bui Hong Dang from Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade emphasized that succeeding in the modern business environment requires creativity and adaptability to change quickly. Introducing livestream into teaching helps students quickly adjust to changes within the e-commerce industry while keeping up with accessibility trends.

Overall, introducing livestreaming into teaching provides valuable opportunities for students looking to develop essential skills needed for success in today’s fast-paced business environment while also opening doors for new career paths within the e-commerce industry.
