Lexi Thompson, the 29-year-old professional golfer who has won 15 times since turning professional in 2010, announced her retirement from the LPGA Tour at the end of the 2024 season. Throughout her career, Thompson has achieved a lot of success and made history as the youngest ever qualifier for the US Women’s Open at just 12 years old. She continued to break records by becoming the youngest winner on the LPGA Tour when she claimed the Navistar LPGA Classic as a 16 year-old. Although these records have been surpassed since, Thompson’s impact on the sport remains significant.
Thompson expressed her gratitude for her time in professional golf and her excitement for the next chapter in her life in a statement on Instagram. She plans to spend more time with family, friends, and her dog Leo while still pursuing the goals she has set for the remainder of the year. Thompson also looks forward to finding ways to contribute to the sport and inspire the next generation of golfers.
Known for her aggressive and powerful style of play, Thompson has been a permanent fixture in the top 10 of the world rankings from 2013 to 2022. LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan praised Thompson for her remarkable career and the positive impact she has had both on and off
