The House of Representatives in Thailand has approved a study to explore the possibility of legalizing casinos in the country, in an effort to boost its economy. The move comes as part of a larger reform initiative that aims to revitalize various industries, including the alcohol sector.
In addition to the casino plan, the lower house also passed draft bills that aim to reform the alcohol industry. One proposal includes lifting a 52-year-old rule that restricts liquor sales between certain hours. However, provincial authorities may still have the ability to impose their own restrictions on alcohol sales.
The government is hopeful that legalizing casinos and making changes to the alcohol industry will help boost economic growth and attract more tourists to Thailand. By taking these steps, the country aims to increase revenue and create new opportunities for growth in various sectors.
