Laughter as Medicine: How Comedy Can Heal and Inspire

Middle Ground Comedy Festival strives to improve participants’ mental well-being through laughter

Comedy has the power to heal, as nurse and comedian Gwen Sunckle has discovered. As the Executive Producer of the Middle Ground Comedy Festival, she uses humor to bring people together and start difficult conversations.

Sunckle believes that laughter can be a powerful tool for mental health, reducing stress and boosting mood by affecting hormone levels in the body. She encourages everyone to find reasons to laugh in a world that often seems overwhelmingly sad. Local comedian Lucas Waterfill, who lives with cerebral palsy and addiction, is one of those who finds comfort in laughter. By sharing his relatable stories, he hopes to inspire others to find their own ways to laugh and improve their mental well-being.

Middle Ground is committed to supporting individuals with mental health issues and becoming a non-profit organization in the future. The festival, which will take place from April 25th to April 28th, will feature 40 comedians from Indiana and across the country. Tickets are priced affordably so that everyone can enjoy a good laugh without financial barriers. To learn more about the event and purchase tickets, visit their website today!
