Cristian Olivera’s goal in the 52nd minute helped LAFC advance to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals for the third time in club history. The team secured a 3-0 victory against Loudoun United, a USL Championship division team, at BMO Stadium on Tuesday night.
Timmy Tillman opened the scoring for LAFC early in the eighth minute, maintaining the lead until the second half when Cristian Olivera found the back of the net to take LAFC’s lead. Tomás Ángel added another goal in the 61st minute to seal the victory for LAFC.
Loudoun United is based in Leesburg, Va., located in Loudoun County. The team’s opponent in the quarterfinal round will be determined on Wednesday night during a live draw on U.S. Soccer’s YouTube channel. The quarterfinal match is scheduled to take place on July 9 or 10.
