The Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games are set to feature Para climbing in their upcoming edition, as the International Paralympic Committee has proposed its inclusion. This proposal will be reviewed and voted on by the Committee on June 26. Janet Evans, the Chief Athlete Officer of LA 2028, expressed her gratitude towards the Committee for considering this exciting sport, highlighting the opportunity it presents for athletes to compete on a global stage.

The organizers of LA 2028 took several factors into account when selecting Para climbing as a potential addition to the Games. They considered its popularity both globally and domestically, its presence at major international events, and the logistical considerations involved. The International Sport Climbing Federation has been organizing world championships for Para climbing since 2011, with the U.S. securing nine medals in the most recent edition in 2023.

Sport climbing made its Olympic debut in Tokyo and will feature in the upcoming Paris Olympics as well as the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The organizers of LA 2028 have made history by proposing additional sports for both the Olympics and Paralympics, with an array of sports added to the program for the 2028 Games following a vote by IOC members. Recent reforms by the IOC allow host cities to suggest the inclusion of new sports solely for their edition of the Games.
