Kyrgyzstan Receives cutting-edge Wind Measurement Technology to Boost Renewable Energy Projects and Attract Investment

Cutting-Edge Technology from the US Enhances Kyrgyzstan’s Renewable Energy Sector

Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Energy has received a Light Detection and Ranging unit from the U.S. government through USAID’s Power Central Asia activity. This advanced technology will provide accurate wind measurements that are essential for the development of renewable energy projects and attracting investment in the country.

During the handover ceremony, it was announced that local technical staff have been trained by USAID to operate the wind measurement equipment. This training ensures that future wind projects in Kyrgyzstan are strategically located and implemented with precision for maximum efficiency. According to USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Mission Director, Kaya Adams, ensuring efficiency in wind projects is critical for making informed investment decisions that will shape the country’s energy future sustainably.

The USAID Power Central Asia activity is a five-year regional energy initiative aimed at enhancing the energy sectors of Central Asia. The initiative aims to introduce competitive methods for producing clean energy, increase energy security through enhanced regional connectivity, and expand cross-border electricity trade. Since its launch in 2020, USAID’s Power Central Asia has attracted $2.2 billion in clean energy investments and facilitated the installation of 2,241 Megawatts of clean energy capacity across the region.
