Knownwell, a hybrid weight-inclusive primary and metabolic care provider backed by Andreessen Horowitz, has recently acquired AI-enabled precision metabolic health management company Alfie Health. This partnership aims to enhance clinical decision support offerings for patients. Based in Boston, Knownwell provides weight-inclusive primary care and metabolic health services both in-person and virtually, with brick-and-mortar locations in Texas and New England and plans to open an office in Minnesota.
Alfie Health offers an AI-enabled platform called ObesityRx, which analyzes medical histories to determine the most effective treatments for improving an individual’s metabolic health. As part of the acquisition, access to Alfie’s platform and clinics was integrated into Knownwell’s care model. This integration aims to deepen the value-based care infrastructure and improve clinical decision support for patients.
In addition to the acquisition, Knownwell made strategic appointments, naming James Chaukos as its first chief operating officer and John Frager as chief growth officer. Chaukos, a former co-founder and executive from Cricket Health, brings operational expertise to the team, while Frager, previously with Carbon Health, brings growth insight to further develop the company.
Alfie Health CEO Alexander Singh expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating that it aligns with their mission to provide exceptional obesity management for patients in need. Knownwell’s leadership, clinical expertise, and hybrid care model position them as leaders in obesity management, enhancing Alfie Health’s patient-focused approach to achieve better outcomes.
Knownwell launched in January 2021 with initial seed funding of $4.5 million led by Flare Capital Partners. In December of the same year, the company secured $20 million in Series A funding to support its growth and expansion. Last year, Alfie Health raised $2.1 million for its weight loss platform, demonstrating a strong focus on developing innovative solutions for metabolic health management.
