Klay Thompson’s Potential Free Agency: The Magic and 76ers Show Interest in the Golden State Warrior

Klay Thompson is reportedly considering testing free agency

The SoFi Play-In Tournament featured a matchup between the Golden State Warriors and the Sacramento Kings. The latest report indicates that Klay Thompson, who has been speculated to leave the Warriors after unfollowing the team on Instagram, will test the free agent market. Shams Charania of The Athletic confirmed this news on Monday, stating that there is mutual interest between Thompson and the Orlando Magic.

While Thompson’s decision will ultimately come down to money and role, as the Warriors likely want his contract to align with that of Draymond Green’s, it seems that he has other options too. In addition to the Magic, the Philadelphia 76ers have shown interest in Thompson. The 76ers are looking for shooting and win-now veterans, which could mean that Thompson would need to accept a slightly lower salary and potentially come off the bench if he decides to join them.

Thompson is currently attending a training camp with the Bahamian national basketball team in Houston but is not expected to be cleared to play in the Olympic qualifying matches. According to Charania, in order for Thompson to play for another national team, he would need an official release from USA Basketball and approval from FIBA, which is unlikely to happen given that only one team advances from their Olympic qualifying group.
