King Cobra on the Loose: Dangers of Illegal Pet Trade and Exotic Animals in Germany

Two-meter constrictor snake missing in residential area of Dessau-Roßlau

Boa constrictors have been known to be a dangerous threat to humans, and now the city of Dessau-Roßlau in Saxony-Anhalt is on high alert after a large one was found in a residential area. The only evidence that has been discovered so far is a two-meter long snake skin with a red-brown pattern, which suggests that it may be a king snake.

City officials have been on alert since Sunday, with a large contingent searching for the missing boa constrictor. Despite their efforts, the snake remains at large. Residents in the area where the skin was found have been questioned but no one seems to know of anyone illegally keeping a snake in their home.

Speculation has arisen that the boa constrictor sighting may have been a prank, as obtaining real snake skins can be difficult. Boa constrictors are native to South America and can grow up to three meters long using their powerful muscles to kill prey by strangling them. To legally keep such an exotic animal in Saxony-Anhalt, approval from a veterinarian is required.

Residents are urged to remain cautious and report any sightings of the boa constrictor to authorities as the search continues for this dangerous snake while the community remains on edge.
