Kennedy Family Speaks Out in Support of Joe Biden: A Rare Show of Unity Amidst Political Differences

Kennedys endorse Biden for presidency, despite family member’s candidacy

The Kennedy family, known for its political legacy, expressed their support for Joe Biden in the US presidential elections on Thursday. This support came at a time when another member of the family, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was still competing for a place on the electoral list.

During a campaign event in Philadelphia, 15 members of the Kennedy family stood behind Biden as he spoke about their influence on his own political life. Biden mentioned his father, former U.S. Senator and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. as the “only two political heroes I had growing up.” He said that he reminds himself to keep looking and think about what they would do in difficult situations, referring to the busts of Kennedy and King that he keeps in the Oval Office.

The support of the Kennedys is significant considering that another member of the family is also running for president this year. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who broke with Biden’s party in October 2023 over his positions as an anti-vaxer and contacts with far-right politicians, has little chance at the polls in November despite being a scion of one of America’s most prominent political families. Even his siblings stood next to Biden on stage on Thursday, showing their clear choice between him and Trump’s Republican candidacy.
