Kelly Walsh High School has emerged as the 2024 Wyoming Regional High School Science Bowl champion for the fifth consecutive year. The students from this school have been honing their skills and preparing for competitions throughout the year, with the KW Science Club holding mock science bowls to sharpen their critical thinking abilities. Their quick thinking and accurate answers helped them secure first place in the regional championship.

Meanwhile, Casper’s CY Middle School students have been actively involved in seeking scientific knowledge through their STEM Club and Science Olympiad competitions. A total of 115 regional high school and middle school teams competed for a chance to reach the National Finals, with 67 high school and 48 middle school teams making it to the finals. Despite their efforts, Casper’s teams were eliminated before the final rounds began.

The National Science Bowl Finals officially commenced with positive remarks from Department of Energy Office of Science Acting Director, Dr. Harriet Kung. She expressed excitement for the event and highlighted the importance of nurturing innovative young minds. The top two middle and high school teams were set to win $5,000 for their schools’ math and science departments, while schools that placed in the top 16 would receive $1,000 for their departments.
